RTA honored with “Public Service Agency” Award from The Collaborative The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) recently accepted a 2016 Best “Public Service Agency” award from the Collaborative. RTA was honored during the 2nd Annual Spirit of Collaboration Awards Event on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at The Peoples Health New Orleans Jazz Market. This event celebrated distinguished individuals and businesses making positive impacts for the small and disadvantaged business enterprise communities – Private/Public Agency, Business, Political, Volunteer Service and Award of Excellence. The Collaborative is a group of small business owners who share a common purpose: the acquisition of economic equity and parity for all local, small and disadvantaged businesses in the City of New Orleans. This is the second consecutive year RTA has received the Public Service Agency Award. The Regional Transit Authority endeavors to actively and purposefully serve as a contributing member of the community. The RTA’s federally funded Disadvantage Business Enterprise (DBE) Program and its Small Business Program are two of the programs in which the RTA participates to establish a level playing field for the various businesses that compete for the taxpayer dollars we spend. During the period of 2011 through 2015, the RTA’s average DBE participation has exceeded 30%. RTA’s most recent quarterly DBE Report indicated 24% DBE participation on federally funded contracts and 31% DBE participation on non-federally funded contracts and small business contracts, spending over $10 million with DBE/SBE businesses in second quarter 2016. The Regional Transit Authority’s Board of Commissioners recommends a goal of 31% for the agency’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) goal for fiscal years 2017 through 2019. The DBE goal and the formula used to establish the goal is currently available for comment and public review at RTA’s Office Building located at 2817 Canal Street in New Orleans.
